We want to hear your story!

Interested in performing at Generation Women DC?

You don’t need to have experience onstage, simply a willingness to write, edit, and share your experience before an audience. We’re especially interested in performers of color, people 50+, and folks in the LGBTQIA+ community.

FAQs

  • We are looking for unique, uplifting stories that shed light on the human experience. Each piece should run about 5-7 minutes (~1,200 words) and focus on the following:

    • Vulnerability. Our audience loves stories that are emotionally honest, and tell the truth in language that is simple and direct. Share your hopes and fears, your ups and down, with us. It’s powerful to hear someone share a truth that’s hard to share. This isn’t a requirement, but at least a couple of lines of truth telling work well for our night.

    • Your experience. This is a very warm room, and supportive environment. If you have something to say about the experience of sexism, racism, homophobia, ageism etc, we’re here for it. We’re interested in how you experience life.

    • Hope. Hope, overcoming adversity, persistence, grit, determination: stories that end on a note like this always do well. We are all struggling, and it’s empowering to hear stories from people who are determined to keep going. Your victories are our victories.

    • Humor. We love to laugh! Stories for our night do NOT need to be heavy—make us laugh! The more jokes, the better.

    • Sexy. Yup, sexy. We love hearing stories about love, sex, and desire, particularly from older women. It’s just not something we hear enough about, and our audience eats. it. up. Go as raunchy as you’d like!
